Getting to know you...

I hate writing these things, but for some reason they feel necessary, so here goes. I suppose I should start by introducing myself, so, hello, I'm Joyce. I'm a twenty-four year old graduate student getting a master's in International Finance. This is actually an odd development since my bachelor's is in political science (specifically International Relations) and I did my very best to avoid all things math during my four years at UCLA. But here I am and I am actually quite enjoying the fact that there seem to be right and wrong answers to all of my homework and test questions.

Anyway, you might have already noticed that I am rather opinionated when it comes to politics just about everything. But particularly when it comes to politics. I am an unabashed conservative Republitarian in the tradition of Larry Elder. After college I worked for the premiere Republican fundraiser in California and though the pay Sucked Something Awful, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The 2004 election was and will probably remain the pinnacle of my active participation in politics and even though President Bush has done a lot to piss me off in his second term I am still proud of the fact that I was able to play a role in his re-election. And besides what other job out there can get you a signed picture with the leader of the free world?

Onto more personal things, on March 10, 2006 I got engaged to the most wonderful man I've ever met. The date has been set for July 7, 2007 and that is about it. As the date approaches and the checklist at TheKnot.com gets longer and longer I will probably whine more and more about how I should have hired a wedding planner. But for now? I can totally do this, I was an event planner you know!

Seriously, though, you should probably expect some kind of freakout around mid-May when I come back from Paris (did I mention the second semester of my master's program is in Paris? this means I will be out of the country for about 5 months prior to the actual wedding) and I realize how much still needs to be done. It's not going to be pretty. Pity my bridesmaids. And the groom.

Something else you should know about me is that I am a Christian. Even though I've had a relationship with God since I was five years old, I wouldn't call myself a mature Christian by any stretch of the imagination. I was the prototypical "prodigal son" during my college years and though the Lord has called me home, in many ways I am still feeling my way back to Him. You can read my testimony here.

As far as this blog goes, it's been around in one place or another since February 2000, my senior year in high school. Which means...I totally started blogging before you (unless you started blogging before February 2000 in which case I bow down). I bought Transcended.Net in April 2001 and have been here ever since. This website has been through about a zillion redesigns, although not lately, until now of course (the day before my first midterm as a graduate student). All writing, images, and coding are original and belong to me unless otherwise stated. Don't steal or I'll hunt you down and tickle your feet.

And that's about all I've got for now. Maybe I'll make one of those nice big long lists one of these days, but knowing me, I wouldn't hold your breath. If you want to know more send me an email because I love email and I don't get enough of it (the non-spam variety that is). If you want to buy me stuff that would be cool too =)
