Wahooo!!
I'm very pleased that Evans decided to get greedy so that it made sense for the Warriors to sign the guy with more upside for pretty much the same price. I really think Buke has the ability to be a Posey type of guy...he rebounds, plays defense and makes clutch threes. What more can you ask for from a sixth man? Besides, who doesn't love a Cinderella story? Labels: Basketball

I must admit that when I first saw our draft pick this year, I thought what a lot of Warriors fans were probably thinking, "Oh great, another tall, skinny kid to warm the bench for Nellie." When I heard he made Brandan Wright, and I quote, "look like a bodybuilder," I was even less thrilled. But (and I don't know if this is just because as a fan I have to hope for the best) I'm really starting to think we just might have gotten the steal of the draft in this Anthony Randolph kid. All indications are that he's got a solid head on his shoulders and after watching him play a bit more, yes, he's skinny but he looks strong too. And as bad as Nellie's reputation is for playing rookies, this kid has all the things Nellie loves - 6'10" who can handle the ball like a guard, shoot, hustle for rebounds and blocks, and generally cause serious matchup problems for the other team. I really hope he's everything he's looking like he could be...please... Oh and if we could just keep Buke I'd be pretty happy too. He's worth the MLE so $3mil/year is a steal really. Kudos to the Chronicle for continuing to investigate and shine light on this story. There's a lot to dislike about the paper but in this case they are definitely doing the right thing. I know a lot of San Franciscans were worried that this story would fade into memory but I think it really has the potential to be a rallying cry for forcing some common sense onto our city government. Especially in light of this newest development. At the end of the article, a government lawyer says he "doesn't know" if the killings could have been prevented, but the widow of Tony Bologna (who also lost two of her precious sons) has it exactly right: Any lawyers out there know if she can sue the city for negligence or something along those lines? At what point during this election I'll stop being so shocked that there are intelligent people out there who support a candidate as clearly inexperienced as Barack Obama (and not inexperienced in an endearing innocent way but in a fumbling bumbling arrogant way, like someone who doesn't know they just don't get it). Can someone explain it to me? Because I just don't get it? Labels: 2008 Elections, those whacky liberals

Since Mama Mia! is actually one of my favorite plays (I've seen it in NY and SF) it really irks me that they've cast Meryl Streep as Donna. Donna was supposed to have had Sophie when she was in her late teens so at MOST she should be in her late-thirties. Meryl Streep's nearly sixty! And she is not a hot mama the way Donna is supposed to be. I mean, who wants to picture Meryl Streep gettin' it on with three different dudes?? Labels: movies

So now that the credit/housing markets have blown up we're hearing a lot of the politicians lining up to criticize and screech, wondering, "Where were the regulators?" It's odd though, because looking back it's clear what more regulation would have done - it would have led to a lot of minority applicants not receiving loans and not becoming homeowners (though only temporary homeowners since the numbers clearly show foreclosures are highest in minority areas). In the past politicians have not been shy about calling for increased numbers of minority homeowners, so I think it's fairly safe to say any "regulation" would have been met with calls of racism and/or discrimination. The politicians got exactly what they called for and besides, where were they in all of this? Why weren't they paying attention to this stuff? Ugh. Labels: all financial like, Politics

You know the market's not in good shape when you hear this at a fixed income sales desk: "Wait, that's the dollar price? I thought that was the yield!" Labels: all financial like

The other day I was going through our junk mail and AmEx had sent Paul one of those sweepstake entry form thingys. Being the cynical fellow that he is, Paul's first reaction was "shred it." I, being the hopeful optimist that I am, said, why not just give it a shot? It's a million dollars after all. This of course led to a discussion of what sort of dream home we would buy if we won - it was only a brief discussion because we quickly realized that a million dollars is really only $500,000 after Uncle Sam takes his share and that, that will not buy one's dream home in SF. Unless, of course, one's dream home is a 500sqft one bedroom condo with a great view of the building next door. And maybe a parking spot - if you're lucky. What housing market crash? Not here in SF anyway. Labels: house hunters, Life, The Hubs

I know it's only been a year so this is expected and all, but I do feel it merits mentioning that not a day goes by where Paul doesn't do something, anything, to remind me just how lucky I am. Every. Single. Day. I think that's pretty amazing. I really can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else. Happy Anniversary babe! Labels: The Hubs

Yesterday, Newsom said in a news conference that he had no authority to order illegal immigrant juveniles be turned over to federal law enforcement. I guess he really just needed to sleep on it, because apparently today, he found just such authority. Labels: illegal immigration, San Francisco, those whacky liberals

So if Paul and I really do end up buying a home in the city, I guess this kind of crap is what our property taxes will be funding. Suddenly the commute from the suburbs isn't looking so bad...Sad because I really do love so much about this city. Thanks again liberals! Labels: Criminals, San Francisco, those whacky liberals
